I took this photo on a geological field trip to the Andes mountains in Chile. On that day I tore a muscle in my right leg and had to wait in the car while my team mates climbed a nearby hill to visit an old mine. It was the most beautiful calm day and so I took the opportunity to shoot some views from where I was waiting. When I saw this view I wanted to capture the serene beauty and fun symmetry of this cloud hovering over the prominent volcano in the distance. I love the quite loneliness of that place.

It was 9:30 in the morning. We were on the way to Mt. Fuji. After 150 miles we glimpsed the volcanic mountain for the 1st time. There was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to capture the first glimpse of this majestic mountain, so I took this photo from the bus.

This was taken at Mount Rainier National Park on our way to New York. We were anxious on the ride up because the sky was filled with grey clouds but when we arrived, it cleared up completely. It is hard to capture the sheer vastness of this mountain but this photo is an attempt at that.

Early morning while visiting Niseko, Hokkaido, Japan, I awoke to an early winter snow storm. The sky was dense with fluffy clumps of snow, gently felling from above, accumulating quickly across the region as people slept in their mountain homes. I grab my camera and hopped into my car, knowing that I would be the first on the road to witness a snow fall I haven’t experienced for more than a decade.

We were looking for a new route through Oregon to Portland from California that would not involve I-5. We left I-5 at Mount Shasta and headed toward the South Klamath basin. We were looking for migrating birds (and there were thousands), but as it was late, the light made it difficult for bird photography. But then we saw Mt. Shasta.........................the light was phenomenal! This is the result. The route from Mount Shasta, to the Klamath Basin , Crater Lake, Bend and Smith Rock is well worth the extra time it takes!
