After taking a busy ferry from Venice to Burano I managed to escape the bustling crowds of this small island and capture this shot of the vibrant houses on the canal.
I really like this colorful shot of the Burano neighborhood in Venice, Italy because of one specific aspect: the boat driver. There is something about his presence in the photo that brings to life the utility of every other piece of the picture. It shows that Burano isn’t just a pretty place, but a place with depth and life that goes on even when the tourists leave.

Today I woke early to catch the first ferry from Murano to Burano. Before all the other tourists arrived I strolled around in the cute little town to take photos of the empty colorful channels.

Picturesque Burano is known for its brightly colored fishermen’s houses and its casual eateries serving seafood from the lagoon. The Museo del Merletto has exhibits on the development of lace-making in the area, and shops sell lace products like linens and clothes, as well as the local butter cookies called “bussolai buranei.” The ancient Chiesa di San Martino has a leaning 17th-century bell tower.
