Before your trip, it's essential to book a few things in advance. First, reserve accommodations ahead of time, especially during the high season, as hotels and riads can fill up quickly. Second, if you plan on taking a guided tour, such as a day trip to the Atlas Mountains or a desert excursion, book your tour in advance as well to ensure availability.
The costs associated with traveling to Marrakech are relatively affordable compared to other major tourist destinations. Expect to pay around $50-60 per night for budget accommodations and $100-200 for more upscale hotels and riads. Meals can range from $5-10 at street food stalls to $20-30 at mid-range restaurants. Marrakech is the fourth largest city in Morocco with a population of over 1 million people It is known for its mosques, markets, and gardens and is also a popular tourist destination.
To get around the Medina of Marrakech, you will have to walk. The streets are so narrow that no means of transportation can get around (except for motorcycles and bicycles, which you will have to dodge constantly).
Finding your way around is a bit tricky since there is no detailed map of the Medina, and the existing maps have street names that are different from the names on the signs.
Finally, the only way to get to your destination is to ask someone to show you the way. Any person will kindly accompany you to the requested address, and in exchange, they will ask you for a tip, which curiously enough, will always seem too little.
Bus in Marrakech
Even if you have the option of taking the bus to get around, seeing the poor condition of the buses and the people they carry, you will most likely prefer to walk or take a cab.
Cabs in Marrakech
In Marrakech, there are two types of cabs: "small cabs" and "large cabs". The small ones are used to get around the city and the large ones are recommended if you are leaving Marrakech.
Cabs in Marrakech have a taximeter, but they often "forget" to activate it. Before getting in, make sure the driver turns it on, and if he doesn't, find another cab. In any case, if you decide to get into a cab without a meter, you will have to negotiate the price before it starts, so that you don't have problems when you arrive.
A good price for a trip to Marrakech is usually between 15 DH (1,40 €) and 25 DH (2,30 €).
Many people order a cab for a whole day and take the opportunity to go to more remote places such as the Ouzoud Waterfalls or Essaouira.
Carriages in Marrakech
Even if it is certainly not the best alternative to get around, a carriage ride during your stay is not to be missed.
You will need about 4 days to discover Marrakech. You will be able to see the main monuments, the flowering gardens, the souks (markets) and the restaurants, but also perhaps some excursions around Marrakech.
As said before, all months of the year can be enjoyed in Marrakech. The best month will depend on what you want to do there.
But, let's be honest, if you want sunshine that warms you up without burning you, pleasant evenings and not too many tourists, go in May.
As you wish!
Many people seem to believe that women and even men need to cover certain parts of their bodies. However, Marrakech is somewhere between modern and historic.
Of course, don't go around in little clothes... But ladies, wear that nice little dress you bought for your holidays in total liberty and gentleman, put on those palm shorts, you are eagerly waiting for it!
As for "covering" your shoulders... With the heat, you'll end up doing it anyway! And by the way, don't forget to take a hat in your suitcase.
Also, wear comfortable clothes if you plan to go to the market, as the souks can be crowded.
Marrakech is safe.
Please note that as in many other places, tourists mean money, so you will be a center of interest for many sellers or any service providers. Don't be afraid to answer "no thank you" or "no choukran" ("choukran" means "thank you") if you are not interested in what people are offering you.
