Best time to visit Marrakech

The weather in Marrakech is pleasant all year round. The best time will depend on what you are looking for. 

From March to June or September to November : for mild and confortable, enjoyable temperatures. From March to June, you'll enjoy the flowers and other plants at their best.
July and August : if you want warmer temperatures (maximum 36.5°C). This is also a period that attracts European and Moroccan expatriate tourists.
From November to February : the temperatures drop a bit (to around 19°C) and so the tourists disappear a little too. This period will allow you to visit much more quietly.

Marrakech to Essaouira

Go from the red city to the white city! To discover this charming port city, several choices are available to you.

By car: 2h30 from Marrakech. If you don't have a car and need to rent one, check with rental agencies such as NajmCar, Medloc or MLB. Don't hesitate to negotiate! Or get taxi ride. There are XL taxis available if you travel in group.

By bus: remember to book your ticket in advance with one of the companies such as Supratours, CTM or the public transportation (way longer but it's an experience). The journey between Marrakech and Essaouira will take 3 hours. Careful, it is not possible to buy a return ticket in Marrakech, so be quick on your arrival at Essaouira to pick up your return ticket to ensure you get home.

How to get around Marrakech ?

Finally, the only way to get to your destination is to ask someone to show you the way. Any person will kindly accompany you to the requested address, and in exchange, they will ask you for a tip, which curiously enough, will always seem too little.

Bus in Marrakech
Even if you have the option of taking the bus to get around, seeing the poor condition of the buses and the people they carry, you will most likely prefer to walk or take a cab. 

Cabs in Marrakech
In Marrakech, there are two types of cabs: "small cabs" and "large cabs". The small ones are used to get around the city and the large ones are recommended if you are leaving Marrakech.

Cabs in Marrakech have a taximeter, but they often "forget" to activate it. Before getting in, make sure the driver turns it on, and if he doesn't, find another cab. In any case, if you decide to get into a cab without a meter, you will have to negotiate the price before it starts, so that you don't have problems when you arrive.

A good price for a trip to Marrakech is usually between 15 DH (1,40 €) and 25 DH (2,30 €).

Many people order a cab for a whole day and take the opportunity to go to more remote places such as the Ouzoud Waterfalls or Essaouira.

How to dress in Marrakech?

As you wish! 
Many people seem to believe that women and even men need to cover certain parts of their bodies. However, Marrakech is somewhere between modern and historic.
Of course, don't go around in little clothes... But ladies, wear that nice little dress you bought for your holidays in total liberty and gentleman, put on those palm shorts, you are eagerly waiting for it!
As for "covering" your shoulders... With the heat, you'll end up doing it anyway! And by the way, don't forget to take a hat in your suitcase.
Also, wear comfortable clothes if you plan to go to the market, as the souks can be crowded.
