Follow me on Instagram @jevanleith for my latest content! Here is a wide angle view of the Frankenstein Trestle in Crawford Notch of the White Mountains of NH. This was a bit past peak foliage, but still a great scene!

The first time I’ve ever been on a mountain - the weather was so unpredictable. Intense sun and heat at the base of the mountain. Enveloped in a cloud at the top of the mountain, and complete downpour between the two. I’m very glad there was a defined auto road to travel, to make the journey easier.

A sky full of bright stars on a night chasing the northern lights. That faint glow above the mountains is a little bit of the Aurora, although it didn’t pick up much further. Still, listening to the peepers under those stars was time well spent.

The forecast kept changing all week but I lucked out with mostly clear skies this night, although there was a low haze that did hang around. Before venturing into the dark with my camera, I checked my weather app for the umpteenth time and noticed a new alert: “Coastal flood warning. Onshore winds and tides higher than normal.” They weren’t kidding! Waves were slamming against the shoreline and a tall, stony outcrop I had scouted the day before was nearly under water. It’s always an adventure pulling off these night shots.

We were out for a regular jaunt through the local forest in a large maple grove which is mostly reforested farmland. This old Studebaker had been intact the last time we had been there. We have taken many pictures here, mostly because my father who is now 91 once owned the same model. This time the car had been crushed by an old maple that had come down. As you can see it was a large tree, about 3’ diameter where it met the auto. It was late September, and overcast day and the air and colors were magical.

I was staying on lake Wentworth with my partner watching the sun set from the other side of the lake. We decided to get a different view an paddled a canoe to the opposite corner to see what we could find. As the sun set we waded out into the lake for a majestic evening swim. This was the first family vacation that our little family of four embarked on, without extended family. We drove a few hours north to the White Mountains. We just went exploring every day, and one day found these amazing Step Falls waterfall edges. You could climb a path to the top of the falls, and just make your way down with the water. We played here for hours, and it was an incredible memory.
