This photo marks one of the first moments in months where the sounds of nature around me overpowered the distant drone of tires rushing over pavement. Hiking to the peak of Blood Mountain, GA, my primary goal was to get out of earshot of the highway at last. I’m happy we made it.

After hiking up Blood Mountain, GA, we found a cozy clearing among the dense vegetation to hang our hammocks. We stayed for an hour or so, sharing oranges, listening for birds, and enjoying the lack of bugs. When we arrived, our hideaway was shrouded in the thick fog that we’d climbed through all morning. Before we packed up, though, we peeked around the corner once more to find that the wall of white had mostly melted away, revealing the rich blues of the neighboring peaks all around us.

It almost seemed unreal, how beautiful the mountains looked during sunset. Almost like a painting. The entire time the sun was setting, we all just were silent and in awe of how beautiful our earth is.

We were driving all over the Great Smoky National Park looking for photos to take. There was nothing like this lookout. It’s crazy how tiny we are in comparison to the miles of mountains ahead.

We hiked up to the top of a ridge in the Great Smoky Mountains for a view, but as soon as we started climbing the fog moved in. While we didn’t get the panoramic views from above we’d hoped for, we did get some spooky landscapes.
