Mountain range in Table Mountain, South Africa

Last Christmas we spent almost a month in Cape Town. One eventing, around 7PM, we took the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain to enjoy the sunset. The picture is a long exposure showing the Twelve Apostles covered in clouds. I really love how the bright colors of the sky are reflected by the clouds.

Temple in Bronkhorstspruit, South Africa

We visited the The Nan Hua Temple in Bronkhorstspruit, South Africa during the Chinese New Year. The display was underway and I managed to squeeze myself into the front. There was a lot of competition for space from other photographers. Luckily for me, someone else ventured a little bit further forward.

Beach in Bloubergstrand, South Africa

After a surf session at Bloubergstrand beach with my brother, I saw one of the Ola carts that we were familiar with as kids. I grabbed my Canon and, being a typical warm, sunny Cape Town day, I set the ISO as low as it could go to make the blacks, shadows and soft red of the Ola branding really pop.

Wildlife in Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, South Africa

A turn off onto a side-road in South Africa’s Hluhluwe Game Reserve brought us face-to-face with a troop of young male Rhinos. The group was displeased to have their grazing turf invaded, and proceeded to line up together and face-off with us. We quickly retreated, acknowledging their claim to that particular stretch of road.

Wildlife in Kruger National Park, South Africa

We were on safari in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. It was our last morning and we’d seen everything but my favourite: cheetahs! We took a by-road and came across these two cheetahs. We sat watching them for at least 30 minutes before they disappeared into the bush.

Wildlife in The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, South Africa

This beautiful female leopard killed a young kudu and dragged it into the high branches of a marula tree in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve in South Africa. We were able to watch her feeding for just a few minutes before she left the tree and disappeared into the darkness.

Hill station in Lion's Head, South Africa

While the rest of Cape Town was still asleep, a few of us adventure seeking folk maximised the moment catching the sunrise from the top of Lionshead Mountain. In this long exposure shot of the iconic Table Mountain, you can see the smoke from a wild fire at the top of the slope.

Mountain range in Du Toitskloof, South Africa

At first light of day on the way to Oudtshoorn from Stellenbosch, we almost drove our car in the ditch seeing this incredible mountain range. We barely managed to stop on the roadside to take some quick snaps, risking our lives with trucks speeding by in the downhill part of the pass.

Wildlife in Kruger National Park, South Africa

A short rest stop in the Kruger National Park welcomed a Southerly Yellow-Billed Hornbill to the tree above me. More commonly know as Zazu from The Lion King (Yup sadly he’s not really blue!). I like the little bit of attitude this one displayed as I got close to take the snap!

Wildlife in Pilanesberg, South Africa

A pair of klipspringers looking out over the plains from their high vantage point on a rock. The male has two pointy horns, the female doesn’t. It was amazing to see these small antelopes, since they are usually very shy. Ocean in Cape Town, South Africa

A gorgeous sunset appeared after biking to the lighthouse near my aunt’s house. This is the beauty of Cape Town, South Africa. What struck me most was that my aunt and uncle were almost unfazed by it, as though they’re surrounded by nature like this (which i guess they are).

Desert in Prince Albert, South Africa

This is the road to Prince Albert. A small town in the Karoo area of South Africa. The road seems forever straight, and so empty. It make you feel small and insignificant. The telephone poles are perfectly hypnotic against the powder blue sky and you notice small things, like birds on the wire because all is so vast and featureless, and still the road is straight, straight straight. It’s really kind of upsetting when you come upon a bend eventually, but then, oh, you can relax again cause there the road is, dipping into the horizon straight ahead of you.

Wildlife in Fort Klapperkop Heritage Site, South Africa

We decided to take a little detour into the nature reserve on our way home. We were initially looking for some spots to shoot with the view of the city in the background, and we stumbled upon the zebras that populate this heritage site. This photo is a reminder that there is a little peace that exists among all the chaos of the city.

Wildlife in Karoo National Park, South Africa

We were on our way home after a unsuccessful weekend at shooting astro. The weather was not in our favour, and unpredicted high cloud covered the skies both nights. After two nights of this, and the weekend coming to an end, we packed the car and got ready for the 5 hour, gravel road journey home. A couple minutes into our bumpy trip, we spotted a mature Oryx on a distant hill. I grabbed my camera in a rush, dialled in the appropriate settings, manual focused and snapped this majestic animal, seconds before it bolted off into the cover of bushes, vanishing from sight.

Wildlife in Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, South Africa

A small troop of female Nyala led by a single male cautiously entered the watering hole, pausing every few steps to swivel their ears about. From our blind we had a perfect view, but even the soft clicking of the camera shutters was enough to alert the careful Nyala of our presence.

Headland in Transkei District, South Africa

Me and my family recently went on a Vacation trip down to the Transkei in South Africa. I have never been to this part of our beautiful country but I always knew about this place - The Hole in the Wall. It was raining hecticly, and our bus got stuck in the mud - but we were all eager to see this fro ourselves. What a magnificent sight it was! I could barely believe my eyes. I ran up this hill to capture this picture - and every-time I look at it my first encounter keeps on coming back - tranquility, peace, stillness from the inside out, and beauty.

Wildlife in Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, South Africa

We didn’t expect to see the variety of wildlife that we did on the day but Africa is full of surprises and the Earth Goddess was not going to disappoint us. We were out and about enjoying the world famous Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal when we came across this jolly family of cool, calm and collected zebra. They are certainly the most easygoing placid animal and did not seem to mind us at all. Off course, seeing this tall, very gentle giant of a giraffe was nothing short of amazing!

Beach in Melkbosstrand, South Africa

As usual, my friends and I were enjoying a wonderful sunset surf on the beauty that is Cape Town’s beaches. We had ventured eagerly to Melkbos on the west coast, a small coastal village lively with passionate fisherman and surfers. Unbeknownst to me, the sunset that evening would be one of the most brilliant, inspiring ones we had ever seen - I had to capture it. This picture never fails to vividly remind me of the feeling I experience while out in the ocean, the feeling I live for. Completely calm, free and alive. No worries, No struggles. Just me and the ocean. What more could I ask for?
