We were need of an emergency Airbnb on the Lofoten Islands, but we arrived there so late we couldn’t check out our surroundings. The next morning we realised we had found a really typical Norwegian fishing village, which was nice.

This is one of the countless small fishing huts that are dotted along the shore of Norway’s fjords. This is the Lofotens - a staggeringly beautiful chain of islands in the arctic circle. I worked hard to make sure that the snow wasn’t overexposed and blown out. I also like the fact it isn’t red (though many of the huts are) because it adds to the bleakness of the image.

It’s hard to wrap one’s head around the real size of mountains and to realize the rock faces come straight out of the ocean. People in the frame give us an idea how massive they really are and put things into perspective!

This image was taken on the first night camping in the wild of the Lofoten and I could not have been luckier. Veinestinden offers one of the most spectacular views on the whole islands. After the clouds vanished, they gave way to beatiful golden light breaking through. A truly breathtaking moment.
