That’s the Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido, Japan. I arrived in Biei in the morning with one of the first trains and rented an e-bike. That way I could catch as much as possible from the beautiful Hokkaido autumn landscape. The electric bike was golden as I travelled up and down many steep hills for over 15km. It’s pretty unique but one of the things you visit for the photo only. The place itself is not that remarkable. The whole way coming here and going back was so much more interesting — and the busloads of poor souls coming here with the bus missed that part of the story.

Autumn in Jozankei is stunningly beautiful but painfully short. I took a short excursion there to explore their famous Kouyou (red leaves) and this particular bridge caught my eye.

I went on a trip to Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan. It’s a city full of white snow. Today, the city is happy with snow.

The Otaru Canal was completed in 1923. At that time Hokkaido, a broad land of frigid cold, finally saw the growth of industry and the population began to increase. The port city Otaru was a major contributor to that development. This canal is a water route that supported shipping by sea. Alongside the canal, warehouses from long ago still remain.
