The typical Italian Gothic building, the Cathedral of Florence, is dedicated to “Santa Maria del Fiore”. The church was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (c1245-1302) who considerably enlarged the existing religious structure. Finished around 1367, the Cathedral was completely covered by coloured marbles like the earlier Baptistery, except for the façade that remained unfinished and was terminated only in the 19th century. - www.museumsinflorence.com

On a trip to Florence, had a chance to capture this from the top of the Duomo, overlooking the city. The trip up the stairs to the top is not a simple one but the view is well worth it.

The cathedral includes the famous Il Duomo, the world’s largest freestanding dome without a supporting wooden frame. Started in 1420 and completed in 1436, it was created by the architect Filippo Brunelleschi.

Padova has multiple markets, every single day in the main two squares - Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta - you can always find fresh fruits and vegetables. Even if this picture it was taken in the early begging of the summer - and there was 31° C - people are still going out to buy fresh food. Do not loose (old) habits :D

After browsing through my photos from Venice I realized that the building and the river reveal the Italian flag.

Midnight. We were on the way back from Piazza San Marco. As we zig zagged through the endless maze of bridges that is Venice, I looked across and everything lined up. The moon was aligned right at the centre of the canal. Just as I pressed the shutter, a speedboat buzzed down the lane. I hesitated for a moment before pushing down on the button.

In rear quarters from Venezia I discovered this small ‘street’. The location attracted me because it is one of the usual streets where the inhabitants from Venezia lives.

This shot was taken from the water on a cloudy autumn day. The drama of the overhanging clouds created a more moody feel than is seen in most brochures so I got into action to shoot it. Always crowded with tourists, it was nice to be able to be back far enough back from the square itself to appreciate the extent of the square’s bordering buildings.

I took this shot during the second Unsplash photowalk organized in Italy. Unsplash is not only a place where users can find free photos, but also a place where people, passionate about photography, can find people with the same passion.

We woke up at 5am to grab some sunrise shots over St. Marks square, but the weather wasn’t on our side. It was foggy, and all around presented terrible shooting conditions. As we were leaving, I decided to shoot a final picture at this arch leading into the square. The walkways in the image are a result of early morning workers getting ready for potential floods, and I was very happy with the way it lead into the arch, with mysterious yet inviting orange lights in the background.

Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti is a palace in Venice, Italy, not far from the Ponte dell’Accademia and next to the Palazzo Barbaro on the Grand Canal of Venice. The palace was erected in 1565. In the 19th century it was internally modernised and externally enriched in Venetian Gothic style, with rich window framing, by a series of grand owners.

“Estate” meaning summer in Italiano. This photo commemorated my 2nd visit in Venezia, Italia out of the 4. Italia has always been a home away from home to me. This was a smoldering 36 degrees Celsius kind of day, where we walked around the houses and ruins in the city. While everyone was busy taking photos at the touristy spots, I was occupied with shooting these bellissimo sites. Sempre bellissima, Italia.

I found this little spot next to the F.te Nove ferry terminal in the lagoon in Venice, and thought it made an interesting composition. The wooden decking to the right of the shot is actually the seating area of a cafe that was closed that the time when the shot was taken.

Beautiful town of Murano in Italy, by far my favorite part of my trip to Venice. The colors of the homes are so vibrant and reflect the character of the city and the people.

After taking a busy ferry from Venice to Burano I managed to escape the bustling crowds of this small island and capture this shot of the vibrant houses on the canal.

I tried to create a “levitation” effect. I put together the different colours of the clothes of my friend with the monotone colour of the sky.
