The Zoroastrians in Persia exposed their dead to be consumed by vultures in “towers of silence”. This practice continued until a few decades ago, and these hilltop towers may be seen yet. Outside Yazd there are two, popular destinations with bus tours. I took this shot from one of the buildings at the foot of the hill, where the relatives waited for the news. “Blessed tidings! The vulture took your aunt’s right eye first! She is going to Heaven!” Grim and macabre, maybe, but the fact that these are full of tourists - and giggling Iranian schoolgirls - says a lot about us.

An ancient Holly place for zarotostian people of Yazd. This is a place in Iran that was used for dead people and it is called Dakhmeh. This photo was taken by mobile in August from inside of a ruined house.

After a wild ride in a 4x4 we arrived in the Mesr Desert in Iran. Climbing the dunes all day we were sitting in the dunes for sunset. After sunset the light changed and the most incredibly blue hour happened. I made the mistake to leave my tripod and the right lense in the car. Sprinting back to the car and back to the right place to take the picture I just made it back in time minutes before it got dark. The lines and colors in this picture calm me down, whenever i look at it.
