We were on our way to Ijen Volcana in East Java, Indonesia. We were looking for some cool photo spots and my friend Jati, yups we found that. That was so fantastic, we were hiking at 1:00 AM because we wanted seeing sunrise. Then, we found this place.

Menjangan Island is a small island, located 5 miles to the north-west of Bali. Diving here was superb, you can float along the reef wall. “Menjangan” in Indonesian means “Deer”, and we saw one during our lunch.

Bali is known for its vibrant and deeply saturated sunsets. While on a 1-month long motorbike trip throughout the island I witnessed many sunsets, but in Pukutatan, on the far west side of the island is where I was treated to some of the best. The reason being is that the beach is incredibly flat with beautiful fine sand that when the tide recedes it becomes a natural mirror. The best part is that this is a local area with very few accommodations. I was usually the only one on the beach.

Working hard in the rice terraces of Bali Indonesia. Traditional methods of harvest. I love the way the two workers contrast against the green of the rice terraces

Tourists are attracted to Tenganan by its unique Bali Aga culture that still holds the original traditions, ceremonies, rules of ancient Balinese and its unique village layout/ architecture. There are strict rules as to who is allowed to live in here; only those born in the village can stay here and become full members of the community. Also a strict protocol regarding marriages among the kin groups have steered the Tenganan through the genetic perils of the intermarriage.

Bali suffers from plastic pollution. You’ll find wrappers, bags, bottles and all others kinds of plastic wherever you go. From high up in the mountains (where the locals create piles of plastic and lit them on fire) to low in the sea. It’s a shame, since Bali is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Luckily there’s still more nature than plastic. Let’s keep it that way. Or better yet: let’s ban plastic from nature. This photo makes me happy. It’s my wallpaper so I can look at it everyday. It not only reminds me of a great trip, but also to be and stay kind to mother earth.

This is the sacred Sanghyang Djaran. A classical Balinese performance, told through fire and trance dance. The barefoot horse man moves around and through a bonfire made from coconut husks, kicking and dancing in a state of trance. I was excited to travel to Indonesia to explore it’s abundant greenery and beautiful environments… I never knew I’d stumble across something this magical.

My girlfriend and I went to visit the iconic ‘Monkey Forest’ in Bali. When we arrived it was mayhem and chaos of monkeys running around, asking for attention and food. But in the middle of all the energy there was 1 monkey lying on a bench, playing and investigating a leaf. This is 4 of 4 shots where you can see how this little one investigates this leaf like he has never seen something like it before!

Every evening, the skies above the village of Petulu in central Bali fill with Little Egrets, Cattle Egrets, and Javan Pond Herons as they arrive to roost overnight. Their numbers have been estimated to total 20,000. The Balinese believe that the birds are the spirits of the survivors of a massacre in 1965. That year, the villagers in Petulu took action to rid the village of negative energy by holding a ceremonial cleansing ceremony; a week later, the herons called “Kokokan” arrived for the first time ever and have rested there ever since.

According to a 2018 McKinsey report, China boasts 114 of the world’s 147 female, self-made billionaires (America has 14). And almost 50% more women hold professional or technical jobs for every 100 men in the Philippines. Asia is one of the most progressive regions for women, yet stereotypes of what Asian women are like and look like persist. BBH Singapore’s ‘See Different’ collection of images seeks to change that by showing the true diversity and personality of women across the Asian region. Photo by @jack_sutcliffe on Instagram.
