Blood moons, Perseids, eclipses. I am more than happy to witness our Galaxy’s expressions in this lifetime. At the same time, I have been chasing that shot of the night sky. I know that I am a newbie when it comes to this, but I guess it’s all about timing. Visiting my home country this year I had high hopes and high goals. Last night’s attempt on the Perseids meteor shower was a feeble attempt. Tonight though, the result was otherworldly. Seeing the Milky way with a naked eye, I could only imagine what that would mean moments later in Lightroom.

I head up to Meteora the other day in hope I’ll get some good sunset but at the last minutes while driving, the whole area went dark from these massive clouds. Took a fiew shots without any sign of the sun and when I was literally about to get in my car and head back home, a tiny crack appears and this magnificent ray of light reveals. Moral: Don’t give up easy, even if the odds are against you. The tide can always turn unexpectedly in your favor.

One of the last pictures in that amazing night in Meteora. The sunset didn’t offer as vivid color as I had hoped for, but the city light reflecting from the rocks added a soul and enigma to this breathtaking place. Meteora, Greece 2017

That’s Meteora in Greece. Six monasteries build on huge natural pillars. It’s a hidden gem in Greece as most travelers won’t find their way to this place which is around 3 hours away from Thessaloniki. We stayed there for a night during our road trip from Thessaloniki to Athens. This place was truly breathtaking.

The Meteora (Greek: Μετέωρα, pronounced [meˈteora]) is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. The six (of an original twenty four) monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area. It is located near the town of Kalambaka at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains. The name means “lofty”, “elevated”, and is etymologically related to meteor.
