Ocean in Possidi Beach, Greece

Blood moons, Perseids, eclipses. I am more than happy to witness our Galaxy’s expressions in this lifetime. At the same time, I have been chasing that shot of the night sky. I know that I am a newbie when it comes to this, but I guess it’s all about timing. Visiting my home country this year I had high hopes and high goals. Last night’s attempt on the Perseids meteor shower was a feeble attempt. Tonight though, the result was otherworldly. Seeing the Milky way with a naked eye, I could only imagine what that would mean moments later in Lightroom.

Highland in Meteora, Greece

I head up to Meteora the other day in hope I’ll get some good sunset but at the last minutes while driving, the whole area went dark from these massive clouds. Took a fiew shots without any sign of the sun and when I was literally about to get in my car and head back home, a tiny crack appears and this magnificent ray of light reveals. Moral: Don’t give up easy, even if the odds are against you. The tide can always turn unexpectedly in your favor.

Ocean in Acharavi, Greece

Even though my wife’s origin is from ice-cold Siberia and mine from a little city situated in the mountains of North Greece, we love the sea. So much that we decided to live next to it on the beautiful Ionian Island, Corfu. It is there where we seek and always find the calm side of our soul, inspiration and always beautiful pictures and moments. Sea has this effect on us and there is no other place in the world, we would like to spend our Winter, than next to it. Read more: https://shinyhoney.com/blog-outfits-purple-winter-coat.html

Underwater in Zakinthos, Greece

We rented a boat on the Greek island of Zakynthos, and we came across something that was actually pretty rare for that time of the year on that part of the island. A turtle. These guys are endangered, but around this island they thrive. We hopped in and immediately noticed the fishing line wrapped around its flippers. We wanted to help it and get it off, but it wouldn’t let us get close enough to help unfortunately.

Landmark in Chania, Greece

In the old harbour in Chania on the island of Crete stands a lighthouse. This rustic old building can be seen from any part of the old harbour and is one of the things everyone visiting is bound to remember. I have taken many snapshots of this lighthouse over the years. But this time I wanted to get an image that was more true to how I picture it in my mind when I remember it. The combination of the old historic location, the fiery sunset and the couple next to it fulfils most of the emotions I have associated with this location. I got my image.

Beach in Kea, Greece

I was on Tsia, an island in Greece, on my 9th day of travel, and I thought this picture captured the essence of summer perfectly - we try to be on the beach trying to beat the heat, relaxing, taking a break from work, having a drink.. And this beautiful afternoon in a not-so-touristy place with a few heads bobbing in the sea reflect that exact calmness which the word ‘summer’ exudes

Waterfall in Solos, Greece

If you don’t get tired you will never see the most beautiful places on planet earth. Maybe it is not a huge step for me to cross down this river to admire this waterfall but it is a great start! Collecting moments and people sometimes with my camera is something that I like a lot.

Sailing in Naxos, Greece

Sailing boats resting peacefully in a marina in the island of Naxos. The picture speaks to me and says: Boats are made to sail. Masts are made to hold sails filled with wind and push boats into riding waves. But here nothing sails. No wind. No waves. I reply to the picture: Every journey has a destination. Every destination is also a new departure. And then the picture asks me : Do you see boats that have reached their destination or boats awaiting departure?. I remain silent. When I answer that, I will know. Am I Columbus leaving Palos de la Frontera or Ulysses reaching Ithaca?

Hill in Zarouchla, Greece

We were driving around the mountains with the car when I stumbled across this beautiful moment. This photo has three levels. The front which is the road highlighted by the sun rays, the middle which is a huge mountain covered by firs and the background which is the peak of a mountain. Great moment

Wildlife in Pani Hill, Greece

It was a particularly windy day in Athens and we were strolling on Pani Hill, when the buzz of a red dragonfly caught our attention. Suddenly, we noticed we were surrounded by these exquisite creatures, all struggling to hold on to these tiny flower buds, during the gusting winds. We believe that this particular photo en-capsules the effort these small dragonflies put on, simply trying to survive another day.

Ocean in Lefkada, Greece

While relaxing on the beach in Greece, suddenly, the skies darkened and this massive thundercell formed literally in seconds before our eyes. Shot this dramatic picture seconds before we frantically started packing our stuff and rain came pouring down in massive torrents accompanied by thunder and lightning. Zeus was not messing around that day!

Beach in Keramoti, Greece

Doesn’t this look like god’s blessing coming straight from the sky down to the newly married couple? I spotted them having a photo shooting on the beach during sunset in Keramoti. It’s a very small city with a beautiful beach 200km east of Thessaloniki (Greece) and near the National Park Nestos Delta. I had my 100mm macro lens with me to tinker around with stuff in the sand when I saw that amazing scene. It’s sad that I didn’t dare to offer them this picture but it’s even sadder that their own photographer did not even take notice of what were happening over their heads.

Wildlife in Sfinari, Greece

West coast of Crete, Greece, the afternoon is touching to an end. We get in the car, leaving the beach early to go up and watch the sunset from the mountains. Behind a curve, we’re suddenly blocked by a flock of goats. We stop the car and I grab my Fuji. The shepherd is here, pouring corn on the side of the road to feed the beasts. As the sun start to redden, the goats hurry on either side of the grain. Dinner’s ready!

Hill station in Meteora, Greece

That’s Meteora in Greece. Six monasteries build on huge natural pillars. It’s a hidden gem in Greece as most travelers won’t find their way to this place which is around 3 hours away from Thessaloniki. We stayed there for a night during our road trip from Thessaloniki to Athens. This place was truly breathtaking.

The name means “lofty”, “elevated”, and is etymologically related to meteor.

Lagoon in Listis, Greece

the beach ισ so special because of the beautiful rocks on the beach itself and in the sea. If you swim around the rock to the east you will end up at another small beach. The name Listis comes from a rocky area on the east side where there are several caves: according to the local residents a bandit (Listis) lived in one of the caves

Underwater in Pnika, Greece

Every Saturday I walk around Athens. One of the places I always visit is ancient Pnika across Acropolis - which is a very nice archaeological place to visit. It had rain the previous night and I had just gotten my new UV lens filter. Here's a test shot of water reflections being removed.
