Castle Gate is a ghost town in the western United States, located in Carbon County in eastern Utah. A mining town approximately ninety miles southeast of Salt Lake City, its name was derived from a rock formation near the mouth of Price Canyon.

Stumbled upon this abandoned scenic turnout while on my way to Arches. Castle Gate was once the first coal mine in Utah and produced high quality coal for steam trains. Dismantled in 1924, it’s now not more than a ghost town. Coincidentally, a train was on it’s way up to the northern direction.
