Mount Shasta is a city in Siskiyou County, California, at about 3,600 feet above sea level on the flanks of Mount Shasta, a prominent northern California landmark. The city is less than 9 miles southwest of the summit of its namesake volcano. Its population is 3,223 as of the 2020 census, down from 3,394 from the 2010 census.

About this picture
We were looking for a new route through Oregon to Portland from California that would not involve I-5. We left I-5 at Mount Shasta and headed toward the South Klamath basin. We were looking for migrating birds (and there were thousands), but as it was late, the light made it difficult for bird photography. But then we saw Mt. Shasta.........................the light was phenomenal! This is the result. The route from Mount Shasta, to the Klamath Basin , Crater Lake, Bend and Smith Rock is well worth the extra time it takes!
