Castle Gate is a ghost town located in Carbon County in eastern Utah, United States. Castle Gate was a mining town approximately 90 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. The name of the town was derived from a rock formation near the mouth of Price Canyon.

Stumbled upon this abandoned scenic turnout while on my way to Arches. Castle Gate was once the first coal mine in Utah and produced high quality coal for steam trains. Dismantled in 1924, it’s now not more than a ghost town. Coincidentally, a train was on it’s way up to the northern direction.
