Located in the province of Quang Nam, the old town of Hoi an is situated in the center of Viet Nam, on the northern bank of the mouth of the Thu Bon River. With an area of 30 hectares, it is an example of a very well preserved area populated by small merchant ports. The city perfectly combines indigenous and foreign cultures, mainly Chinese, Japanese and European, which have given birth to a unique and sublime relic. In its alleys, Hoi An is full of 1,107 buildings including architectural monuments and structures for commercial and residential use. You can discover an open-air market, a ferry dock and religious monuments such as traditional pagodas and ancestral places of worship. The houses have tile roofs and are decorated with traditional Vietnamese motifs. The buildings of the city open to the street for easy access for customers while the back opens to the river for easy loading of goods sailing by boat. Hoi An bears witness to a traditional urban landscape dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries and has unique remains in the region. Today, the city is occupied by its maritime activity and its heritage reflecting different indigenous and foreign communities.
