Ayutthaya is a city in Thailand, located about 80 kilometres north of Bangkok. Founded in 1350, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam and a thriving international trading port until it was razed by the Burmese in 1767. The ruins of the ancient city now form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with dozens of ancient temples, each more impressive than the last. The site reflects the richness and importance of the city at the time.
