A city of 2.1 million inhabitants, Tijuana is part of the Tijuana-San Diego urban complex and marks an important border crossing with the United States. Its name is said to refer to Tía Juana, owner of the ranch that formed the embryo of the city.
Nicknamed "the window to Mexico", this first border town is constantly bustling with tourism and nightlife. Despite its bad reputation, it is one of the most visited cities in the world: more than 20 million visitors per year. Among its attractions: its Mediterranean climate, its beach cut in two by an iron curtain, Mexican-style pelota, bullfights, greyhound races and, of course, bars and clubs to dance the night away.
