Hakuba is a village in the Kitaazumi District of Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
The valley is internationally renowned as it welcomes ski enthusiasts from all over the world in winter. It is also very popular in summer as it becomes an outdoor sports paradise in the warmer months. Hakuba Valley began developing its resorts in the 1950s, but it was the 1998 Winter Olympics that really put it on the international stage. The winter months are also full of events such as the Hakuba47 Snow Sculpture Festival and the Happo-one Fire Festival, both held in February. The spectacular alpine scenery, clean air and wealth of outdoor activities make Hakuba a popular destination, even in warm weather. You can go canoeing, paragliding, mountain biking, rafting, kayaking and even tree climbing.
