Fukuoka, the capital of Fukuoka Prefecture, is located on the northern coast of the Japanese island of Kyūshū. Fukuoka is warm, engaging and colourful. It is the perfect embodiment of the dynamism and art of living characteristic of southern Japan. The two main cities in the prefecture are Fukuoka and Kitakyushu, with Fukuoka being the most populous city on Kyushu Island. Fukuoka also has several famous tourist sites, such as Dazaifu and Yanagawa. In the heart of the city, close to Maizuru Park and the remains of the old Fukuoka Castle, Ohori Park is an absolute must-see. It can be discovered on foot, by walking around its huge lake, or by taking a fun pedal boat ride. The park also has a pretty Japanese garden.
