Travel Tips for visiting Halong Bay

Halong Bay is a must-see tourist destination in Vietnam, welcoming millions of visitors every year. Halong Bay is located in Quang Ninh Province, in the north-east of Vietnam, 160km from the capital Hanoi. The bay is a legendary group of islands consisting of more than 1,969 islets at high tide. Composed of limestone and slate, it is dotted with many sandy beaches and caves, creating the stunning scenery of Halong Bay. Halong Bay is divided into three areas (Halong Bay Centre, Bai Tu Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay), all of which can now be visited on overnight cruises. There are two types of visitors to Halong Bay: domestic tourists and foreign tourists. Domestic tourists visit Halong Bay in summer by a combination of staying in a hotel and cruising Halong Bay by boat (4 hours), mostly concentrated in the Bai Chai tourist area of Halong City. This has become more lively with the opening of the sea park in 2017. Halong Bay is also home to many Chinese tourists, some of whom take day cruises and stay overnight in the harbour for similar activities. Foreign visitors (mainly English-speaking people) prefer to take a two-day and one-night cruise and enjoy activities such as kayaking, caves, floating villages and beach barbecues in the less crowded parts of the bay. - Domestic and Asian tourists prefer to enjoy Halong Bay on a day cruise (4 to 8 hours). - Western tourists prefer to visit Halong Bay on a two-day and one-night cruise. Halong Bay is divided into three areas (Central Halong Bay, Bai Thalong Bay and Lan Ha Bay), all of which can currently be visited on an overnight cruise. Weather in Halong Bay Halong Bay is located in the northeast of the country and the climate varies between the four seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter), but can be broadly divided into cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. Summer (May to August): the whole region is very warm, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. There is some light rain, and at the end of the summer an unexpected typhoon can cancel your trip. Autumn (September-October): The weather is cooler and there is a risk of storms, but they are short-lived. The air is clear and ideal for photography and all the activities we have planned. Winter (November-January): Winter, from late November to January, is a little colder and drier, but this is when the bay is at its peak. The morning mist hides the mysterious beauty of the Halong Islands. Spring (February to April): sunny days and cool breezes in the evenings. Flowers begin to bloom and trees and bushes put on new leaves. There is always the possibility of rain and fog in spring, but the fog is not as thick as in winter. The best time to visit Halong Bay is in spring (March, April and May) and autumn (September and October), when the weather is cooler and outdoor activities can be enjoyed.
