Learn More about Horseshoe Bend

A meander of the Colorado River, Horseshoe Bend offers a spectacular view of the river 320 meters below. Its perfectly shaped curve has earned it the name "horseshoe". The emerald hues of the river contrast beautifully with the ochre walls of the canyon. Around noon, the light is ideal to enjoy the beauty of the place and take pictures. The meander is located downstream from Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, in the Glen Canyon Recreation Area. Located only 4 miles from the town of Page, Arizona, the site is easily accessible from Highway 89. Indeed, little known to the public before 2010, its popularity has exploded thanks to social networks. Development work has been done to accommodate a large number of visitors, up to 1.5 million per year. There is a $10 parking fee to get to the site. A short one-hour hike (2.4km round trip), accessible to people with limited mobility, is then required to access the viewpoint. The main viewpoint, which has been landscaped and secured, is a 20-minute walk away. You can then go to the right or to the left for different views, but be careful, the path is no longer secure. Although the hike is short, the Arizona heat calls for caution. Bring good hiking shoes to walk in the hot sand, and plenty of water. Also be careful once you reach the top. Accidents occurred before the viewing platform was installed and the site is still not fully secured.
