Situated in the heart of a vast bay dominated by the Taurus mountains, Antalya was founded in the 2nd century B.C. Roman, Byzantine and then Ottoman, this seaside city offers an interesting mix of civilisations that is well worth a visit during a trip to Turkey. Surrounded by walls built by the Romans, the city has preserved a marble gate dedicated to the Emperor Hadrian from that period. Inside, the old town of Kaleiçi is strongly influenced by the Ottoman presence with its narrow streets and bazaar.
