Learn More about Oeschinen Lake

Oeschinen Lake is a glacial lake in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It is located in the Oeschinen valley, in the municipality of Kandersteg, at an elevation of 1,578 metres (5,174 ft).

What makes the lake of Oeschinen so special is that it is surrounded by mountains of more than 3000m (the Doldenhorn 3638m, the Fründehorn 3368m, the Oeschinenhorn 3486m, the Blüemlisalphorn 3660m) and their glaciers which are as if they were suspended above the lake (not for very long unfortunately considering the speed at which they melt). It is as if it were in a kind of amphitheater of mountains and glaciers that opens up on the side of the village of Kandersteg.

There are also the crystalline rivers that flow into the lake from the glaciers through numerous waterfalls. And of course the blue-green shades that vary according to the weather and the seasons... which makes the lake of Oeschinen beautiful to admire all year round!
