Melkbosstrand is a village and seaside resort attached to the Cape Town metropolis in South Africa. Melkbos, a 4 miles (7 km) beach, is popular for water activities (surfing, kite boarding, windsurfing or jet-skiing etc.) and is known for its spectacular views of Robben Island and Table Mountain. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999, Robben Island has been used as a prison, leper colony, psychiatric hospital and military defense post.
