Jeju Island, in the south of Korea, is synonymous with seaside resorts and a popular tourist destination for Koreans. Accessible by boat from Mokpo or by plane from Seoul, go there outside August if you can! In addition to its tourist attractions: dream beaches, lush vegetation inland, waterfalls, luxury hotels by the sea, Jeju has much more to offer. It is a unique volcanic island. Start by climbing Seongsan Ilchulbong, the "Peak of the Rising Sun," a 182-meter-high volcanic cone located on the eastern side of the island. It looks like a round fortress forming a peninsula by itself. Together with Halla Mountain, in the center of the island amidst beautiful waterfalls, and the impressive lava tunnels of Geomunoreum volcano, Seongsan Ilchulbong is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Jeju is also the island of Haenyeo divers, women who dive without oxygen masks to a depth of 10 meters to fish for abalone or sea urchins. Their practice of diving is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in the east of the island, you can visit the charming little museum dedicated to them. Jeju's subtropical climate is also conducive to the cultivation of green tea. Take a stroll through the plantations and visit the Osulloc Tea Museum, not forgetting to take a break at the tea shop where you can taste all sorts of flavored teas and discover a plethora of related products such as cosmetics, cookies... To end your stay on the island in beauty and inspiration, immerse yourself in the work of Korean painter Lee Jung Seop, originally from Jeju. In the gallery that bears the artist's name, you will discover his drawings and paintings mostly inspired by Fauvism.
