When you arrive by road, you can see that you are on an almost island, a peninsula, where Cape Carvoeiro is located. In the Middle Ages, this place was an island: a tombolo was gradually formed between the island and the continent. The first thing that strikes you, when you arrive in this small city of 15000 inhabitants, is the clarity. The sunlight, not blocked by high buildings, is reflected on colored or white walls, illuminating the whole city.

The ocean is everywhere here, and the relationship with the sea is fundamental: you are here in one of the very first fishing ports in Portugal.
