⛰️ Cliff 🏖️ Beach 🌲 Ecoregion 🏖️ ShoreThe town of Aljezur, which has ancient origins and Islamic and Christian heritage, is located between the sea and the mountains and is the perfect destination for those who love breathtaking beaches, hiking, and fresh fish all year round. Among the dunes and the wild heather, the coast of Aljezur is a real natural and is dotted with cliffs of grey schist and white or golden limestone. Some beaches are more difficult to access than others, and the easiest way to get there is by car. Aljezur is located in the Costa Vicentina National Park. The coast is a paradise for hikers and surfers, and there are plenty of surf schools in the area.
One of the most famous beaches is Amoreira. It is one of the most accessible and therefore also one of the most crowded ones on weekends. Surfers however love Vale dos Homens beach. It is more difficult to access, but so worth the effort. The Carriagem beach is very narrow, with almost no vegetation, and it is advisable to visit this beach at low tide. It is mostly used as a fishing spot and the fact that it is quite wild makes it perfect for those who like peace and quiet.
To reach Aljezur, you follow picturesque paths lined with eucalyptus and pine trees. The castle of Aljezur, one of the seven castles on the Portuguese flag, dominates the landscape. The castle is free to visit the castle every day. The panoramic view of the surrounding villages is breathtaking, as you can see many white, blue, and yellow houses. Aljezur is separated by a river of the same name that stretches to the beach of Amoreira. On one side of the river is the old town, and on the other is the new town built after the earthquake of 1755.
The easiest way is to rent a car and drive down the coast. The other option is to land at Faro International Airport, then drive for about 1.5 hours. By public transport, you have to stop in Lagos and take a bus.
The main attractions to visit in Aljezur are Praia do Amado, Arrifana Beach, and Monte Clerigo Beach.
Some of the most popular restaurants in Aljezur are Bistrot Gulli, VÁRZEA, and Restaurant O Sargo.
