Travel Tips for visiting Bantayan Island

Bantayan Island is a peaceful paradise located in the north of Cebu. It's about 4 hours by bus to Hagnaya port and over an hour by boat from mainland Cebu. It is divided into three municipalities: Santa Fe, most frequented by tourists thanks to its long stretches of white sand beaches; Bantayan, the heart of the island famous for its old church; and Madridejos, a fishing village whose fortress ruins stand out with stunning sunsets. Aside from enjoying the beach, sunbathing and swimming to your heart's content, there are plenty of fun things to do while on the island. Remember to bring enough cash as the nearest ATM is only found in Bantayan town.

The best place to catch sunrise and sunset is Kota Beach in Santa Fe. Visit the Parish of St. Peter and of St. Paul which is one of the oldest parishes in Cebu founded by Augustinian missionaries on June 11, 1580. Or head to Madridejos, the preserved Spanish Fort Ruins. Well preserved can be found in Kota Park here. It used to be a watchdog for the Moro pirates then turned it into a park. Or you simply want to come here to relax with your family, don't miss Bantayan Island Nature Park and Resort. Island hopping, swimming and relaxing on white sand beaches are popular tourist activities. One can enjoy the beauty of the white sands of Santa Fe or board a canoe to explore the Virgin Island. If you like to party, there are plenty of video games, bars and live bands for those who fancy a night out in town.

Food plays an important role when traveling. It is a mortal sin not to indulge in the occasional local taste. Catering in Bantayan is a bit of a challenge. The island is still recovering from the fury of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013, and servicing has been slower than usual.
