Huacachina is a village built around a small oasis and surrounded by sand dunes in southwestern Peru. It is about five kilometers from the city of Ica in the Ica District of Ica Province.
Ica is a city and the capital of the Department of Ica in southern Peru. While the area was long inhabited by varying cultures of indigenous peoples, the Spanish conquistador Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera claimed its founding in 1563.

️🏜️ Desert 🛣️ Off-roadingTo visit the Huacachina is to discover an oasis hidden between the dunes of the desert of Ica, where one comes mainly to make sandboard, dune buggy, and to party! It is a stop that can be easily integrated in an itinerary in Peru since it is located south of Lima, on the road to Nazca and Arequipa, near Paracas. Certainly the oasis is magnificent, with its lagoon surrounded by palm trees and restaurants, but the main tourist attraction of Huacachina are its sand dunes that you can go down in buggy and sandboard! All around the lake, you will find dozens of small agencies offering buggy tours, but I advise you to choose the one at 4 pm because you will be able to admire the sunset from the dunes! And know that you can also climb on the dunes for free to enjoy the sunset. In the desert, it is always incredible! When you arrive at the top of a dune, the driver if you took the option of a buggy tour through an agency will stop you because these huge dunes offer the possibility to practice sandboarding. If you want to relax, it is possible to rent a pedal boat for 2 people or a small boat with oars for 5-6 people. Ica is the region of wine and pisco in Peru! So why not take the opportunity to visit a vineyard? You can visit bodegas on your own or take a day trip. You should know that Huacachina is the ideal place to party, with several bars and hostels, which attracts many backpackers. Because of the fiesta, it can be difficult to sleep well, especially on weekends! If you are a light sleeper, I recommend sleeping elsewhere (Ica, Lima or elsewhere depending on your itinerary).
