Learn More about Muriwai Beach

Cradled by the waves of the Pacific Ocean and bordered by beautiful cliffs, Muriwai Beach is a small New Zealand community located in the North Island, on the west coast of the Auckland region. Muriwai is inhabited by about 1250 locals but also by another species: gannets. Gannets are a species of seabird that feed on fish. You can see these strange birds in the Muriwai Regional Park. The park also has a golf course and a horse park. Muriwai is characterised by its very popular black sand beaches which attract many tourists and locals, the black sand being due to the high iron content from ancient volcanoes. Not far from the beach, you can find the Muriwai Surf School where surf instructors are happy to teach you how to ride Muriwai's rough waves, but of course there are other water activities available. Muriwai is a particularly windy area, and often offers paragliding and hang-gliding sessions. However, you should be careful, as it is sometimes not advisable to practice these activities or to swim in strong winds. There are many other activities to discover.
