Lemmer is a town in the municipality of De Fryske Marren, in the Dutch province of Friesland. Lemmer lies adjacent to the IJsselmeer and the Frisian Lakes and is one of Friesland's best-known surface water sports locations.
The D.F. Wouda Steam Pumping Station is a pumping station in the Netherlands, and the largest still operational steam-powered pumping station in the world. On October 7, 1920 Queen Wilhelmina opened the pumping station. It was built to pump excess water out of Friesland, a province in the north of the Netherlands. In 1967, after running on coal for 47 years, the boilers were converted to run on heavy fuel oil. It has a pumping capacity of 4,000 m³/min. The pumping station is currently used to supplement the existing pumping capacity of the J.L.

De Alde Feanen National Park is a national park in the Netherlands province of Friesland. The Alde Feanen is also a Natura 2000 area. The Alde Feanen is part of the municipalities Leeuwarden, Smallingerland and Tytsjerksteradiel. Its size is about 25 km². Part of the national park is the lake area Princenhof. The Alde Feanen contains morasses, lakes, forests, peat and meadows. In the area at least 450 plant species and 100 bird species can be found. A very prominent bird is the white stork. Tall wooden poles have been installed so that the storks can build nests. Another attraction is provided by Shetland ponies. Some of the paddocks can be entered so that ponies can be petted by visitors. In the village of Earnewâld there is a visitors centre, De Reidplûm, close to the stork breeding station It Eibertshiem. The area is owned by It Fryske Gea since 1934.
