To get there, you can rent a car, take a bus, a taxi or book a day trip from Marrakech for less than €30 per person.
The city is beautiful with its white houses contrasting with the blue of the shutters. Its Medina, formerly known as Mogador, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is surrounded by a Vauban-style wall. Its kasbah is a marvel not to be missed.
You will find a variety of restaurants and shops for a busy day in the heart of the city.
It is very pleasant to walk along the 200 metres of Essaouira's ramparts, which were built to protect the city from foreign invasions. The most interesting is in the western part, at the Sqala de la Kasbah. Entirely built in carved stone, it borders the Atlantic Ocean and has several dozen Spanish cannons aimed at the sea... an emblematic place!
The port of Essaouira offers a fascinating picture for every visitor: it has many blue wooden boats, moored and squeezed in rows as well as thousands of birds, seagulls and gulls. Hundreds of fishermen unload their fish in a friendly and authentic atmosphere. You can enjoy the day's catch in one of the many restaurants in town.
In Essaouira, the city has followed its course without focusing on the tourist influx. The markets are very popular with locals, who come to do their shopping especially in the main avenue Zerkouni around the souk Jedid
There are also modern hotels along the beach. Essaouira is also renowned for windsurfing and kitesurfing, thanks to the strong winds that blow almost constantly across the bay and the annual Kitesurfing World Cup.
A few kilometres to the south, towards the road to Agadir, you can enjoy islets and Riads, as well as a unique beach, Sidi Kaouki, located about 25 km from the city.
