️🏜️ Desert 🌲 EcoregionConsidered as one of the most important regions of Morocco and mostly rural, discover the Province of Errachidia.
The province offers a natural environment rich in contrasts, but also a journey back in time through its historical and cultural heritage.
The province of Errachidia is home to Tafilalet, one of Morocco's major historical regions. Known as the largest oasis in the country, it is also the birthplace of the Berber queen Tin Hinan, whom the Tuaregs honour as their original ancestor. In the Middle Ages, Tafilalet was an important crossroads on the trade route for gold, spices and salt, as well as for the slave trade from the Balad es-soûdân or Black Country (Niger, Mali and the Gulf of Guinea regions).
During your stay, you will have the opportunity to cross sometimes immense arid zones, sometimes vast palm groves. The more adventurous explorers can continue to the snowy peaks of the Atlas Mountains and the magical dunes of the Moroccan desert. The epic journey seems tough, but fortunately the Ziz, Guir and Ghris wadis wind their way through the province and lead to the great oasis of Tafilalet, where you can take a break and relax.
Don't hesitate to visit the provincial capital of Errachidia of the same name. The city of Errachidia is in full expansion. It has a renowned university with a multi-disciplinary faculty. In the city centre, around the bus station, you will find all the services needed for daily life: the post office, banks, shops, etc. There is a small covered market, so take a look on Sundays, Tuesdays or Thursdays to discover the best of the local produce. Unlike its surroundings, the city does not have any great examples of local architecture.
Errachidia is at the start of many exciting excursions, including the sand dunes of Merzouga, the palm groves of Goulmima and Ziz, the lake of Tifounacine, the valley of Gheris, the blue spring of Meski, as well as mountains rising to more than 3,200m.
Only 12 km away is the Hassan-Addakhil Dam reservoir, which with its green waters and scarlet earthen dam is a good photo spot.
Further afield, the towns of Rich (60 km to the north) and Erfoud (70 km to the south) show another side of traditional Morocco. Time seems to stand still in these towns, and you will often see mules, horses and donkeys in the streets.
Do not hesitate any longer and go to the province of Errachidia.
To get to Errachidia Province, you can land at Casablanca airport, then take a bus or car to the province.
It depends on what you prefer. The region of Errachidia has a semi-desert climate with a strong continental influence.
The temperatures are characterised by large seasonal and daily variations.
Over the year, the thermometer shows an average of 20°C. It does not rain much in Errachidia, 25 days a year on average with a rainfall rate of 120 mm.
