Kiyomizu-dera refers to a complex of Buddhist and Shinto temples located in Kyoto, Japan. Built on a hillside in Higashiyama district, east of the city, this temple is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. The panorama embraces the city of Kyoto, magnified by the heights, as well as the abundant vegetation of the surroundings, of an increased beauty especially in spring during the blooming of the cherry trees or in autumn, during the glow of the maple leaves. It is a place accessible by bus, the way to reach the temple is strewn with stalls offering typical Japanese food and drinks, to put you in the mood. The complex has several temples, pagodas and even a waterfall, all built around the main pavilion. The Hondo also houses a bronze statue of the Bodhisattva Kannon, with eleven heads and hundreds of arms, who is said to be compassionate and to answer prayers. The Otowa waterfall, at the bottom of the stilt terrace, can only be reached after a flight of stairs. It attracts a lot of tourists who come to visit the temple.
