Discover Sorapiss, a mountain range located at about 3200m altitude, in the Dolomites, North-East Italy.
Sorapiss is particularly popular for its lake of the same name.
The Sorapis lake is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Dolomites in Italy, if not the most beautiful...
The turquoise blue lake is indescribably beautiful.
If you like hiking in the mountains, you will be overwhelmed by the beautiful scenery surrounding the famous Dolomite lake!
Despite its distance, about 11 kilometres round trip, it is quite easy as it has a reasonable positive difference in altitude of 200 to 300 metres. But don't worry, the incredible landscapes will make you swallow the kilometres without realizing it!
The start of the hike is about 15 minutes from Cortina d'Ampezzo, a ski resort in Italy.
Be careful, the path is sometimes flush with the cliff. It is therefore necessary to overcome vertigo in some places. You will be at an altitude of about 1800 metres.
When you arrive at the Sorapis Lake, you will be amazed by the beauty of the place.
The blue colours of the lake and the mountains surrounding the lake will make you feel as if you were there. It is a glacial lake as you can even hike to the glacier a few dozen metres away. It is the glacier that gives the lake its pure colour.
This fascinating blue colour is produced by the "glacial flour". This is the result of the abrasion of the glacier on its rocky bed. When the glaciers melt, it reaches the lake.
As the environment here is very fragile, swimming is prohibited.
The Sorapis lake is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
So, if you are fond of adventure and breathtaking landscapes, do not hesitate and go to Sorapiss.
Being a glacial lake, the fauna and flora of Lake Sorapis are therefore fragile.
It is therefore forbidden to swim in the lake.
The best time of day to visit the Sorapiss lake is in the morning before sunrise. This is your chance to see a beautiful landscape.
If you are planning to visit Lake Sorapiss, the best place to stay is in Cortina d'Ampezzo. It is only 20 minutes from Lake Sorapis.
You should also know that it is forbidden to camp near Lake Sorapiss, as it is a UNESCO protected lake, although there is a refuge not far from the lake.
