🏰 Historic site 🗼 Landmark 🏘️ TownRagusa is an attractive town on the Sicily island, Italy. Ragusa's baroque architecture has earned UNESCO World Heritage status. Ragusa is located in the Val di Noto valley of southeastern Sicily, about 90 km from Catania, divided into two parts : Upper Town and Ibla. Marina di Ragusa, a well-developed resort with beaches, is located on the coast about 20 kilometers from town.
There are 18 UNESCO sites, five in the Upper Town and the rest in Ibla. Many of the buildings are richly decorated in the Baroque style. Ibla has several UNESCO churches - Santa Maria dell'Idria, San Filippo Neri, Santa Maria dei Miracoli, san Giuseppe, Santa Maria del Gesu, San Francesco and Chiesa Anime del Purgatorio. The UNESCO Baroque buildings in Ibla are the Palazzo della Cancelleria, Palazzo Cosentini, Palazzo Sortino Trono, Palazzo La Rocca and Palazzo Battaglia. At the far end of Ibla is a large, beautiful park with picturesque views from the edge. The bus stops in front of the park and there is a small parking lot next to it. Along the cliffs southeast of Ibla is the bronze age necropoli. They can be seen from the road to Modica.
In the Upper Town is the Church of San Giovanni dating from 1706, in a large Corso Italia square. There are three Baroque buildings - Palazzo Vescovile, Palazzo Zacco and Palazzo Bertini. The little church of Santa Maria delle Scale, dating from 1080, is located right at the top of the stairs leading down to Ibla. There's also the Ibleo archeology museum, which has found prehistoric inclusion materials from Late Roman settlements from archaeological excavations in the province.
I would recommend staying in Ibla for an easy walk up the hill back to Upper Town and it's more convenient for restaurants and monuments. There are many restaurant options in Ibla. In Upper Town, there are plenty of restaurants where you'll find good, cheap meals serving typical Ragusa dishes.
There are San Giorgio Palace Hotel Located near monuments such as Siculamente (0.2 km) and Circolo di Conversazione (0.2 km)
