The Lago di Braies (or Braies lake), considered as the pearl of the lakes of the Dolomites, it is a must-see destination that we already talked about in our article about the Dolomites in Italy. We know that it is a popular tourist destination, of course, but that doesn't mean that we don't want to go there! It is difficult to resist the beautiful pictures of the lake of Braies that we can find on the internet and we understand it. Indeed, the Pragser Wildsee is a very popular place in the Dolomites, this natural park is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site. And there is a reason: it is very beautiful. It offers magnificent reflections on the surface of the water and its legendary wooden hut that gives a poetic atmosphere to the place. It is a small alpine lake located in the Braies Valley, very close to the Tre Cime park at 1496 m of altitude. And also quite close to Bolzano (100 km and 1h30).
The Braies lake is a very, very, tourist destination, all year round, thousands of people come to admire it. They come to visit this lake that attracts by the intense blue and turquoise color of its clear waters, and its natural setting composed of forests and mountains that overlook the lake.
The little extra? The beautiful wooden boats that you can rent and that give a very romantic atmosphere to the lake.
It has always been a favorite of photographers (and Instagram "stars"), with the Hotel Lago di Braies on one side and the Croda del Becco on the other.
You can get there very easily by car, as the points of interest are very close to each other in the Dolomites and you have several parking lots available. You can also go to Lago di Braies by bus via the 442 lines from Ferrara.
There is no doubt that it must be beautiful all the time, but it shines in summer: the color of the lake is deep and you can enjoy the splendid reflections of the mountains on the surface of the clear water.
In the summer, we advise you to go early in the morning, around 6/7h, or in the evening, after 19h30. These times will guarantee you the tranquility to fully enjoy the lake and its environment as well as the beautiful lights.
