Learn More about Amalfi Coast

"It's a dreamy place that doesn't seem real when you're there and you feel a great nostalgia when you leave it" wrote the American writer John Steinbeck. From Sorrento to Salerno, the Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful coasts in Italy, Europe, and probably the world. Steep mountains slope down to the Tyrrhenian Sea, where according to Homer the hero Odysseus once met the Sirens... In this landscape worthy of ancient mythology, a narrow and majestic road takes us to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, villages perched like eagles' nests between sea and sky. A resting place for poets, romantic artists and Hollywood celebrities, the Amalfi Coast now enchants tourists. In Salerno, a splendid little town, you should take a walk along the Lungomare Trieste (a seaside promenade) and visit the medieval castle of Arechi, overlooking Salerno. Three kilometers to the west, the coastline is home to the village of Vietri sul Mare and its inhabited center, while its maritime area is outcropping along the water. This splendid village is the "capital" of earthenware. It is not by chance that the dome of the church of St. John the Baptist and the facade of the Archconfraternity of the Annunziata and of the Rosario are covered with these magnificent multicolored ceramics. Cetara and Maiori, two of the most popular seaside resorts for their fine sandy beaches are small fishing villages of also have their churches- respectively that of San Pietro and that of Santa Maria a Mare - and their domes covered with ceramic tiles in earthenware. But before reaching Maiori, Capo d'Orso is certainly an extraordinary place from a panoramic point of view. The abbey of Santa Maria d'Olearia, carved in the rock, is a must-see.
