Travel Tips for visiting Bali

Bali, the Island of Gods and Pearl of Indonesia

Bali, Indonesia's top destination

The Island of Gods, better known as Bali, is an Indonesian island located between Java and Lombok. Separated from these two by the Bali Strait to the west and the Lombok Strait to the east, its total area is 5,637 km2. Bali is the most popular and well-known tourist destination in Indonesia.

Denpasar, the largest city on the island, administers the province and has a population of over 3.8 million.
The most important cities are Kuta and Ubud. The latter is the main cultural and artistic center of Bali.

The island is divided into several regions: Bali Utara (West), Barat (North), Tengah (Central), Selatan (South), and Timur (East). In addition, three small islands in the southeast of Bali are under its administration: Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.

The Balinese are mostly Hindu, but there are also Muslim and Protestant communities on the island. Although they speak Bahasa Indonesia, the Indonesian national language, the population also has its own Balinese dialect which has its origins in Austronesian languages.

The inhabitants live mainly from tourism and agriculture. They grow rice, fruits, vegetables, and coffee. Fishing is also an important resource for them.

Bali, between ocean, mountains, and rice fields

The beautiful landscapes of Bali are known throughout the world: rice fields, mountains, white-sand beaches, and turquoise waters. They are very diverse and interesting to discover each other. The highest mountain of the island is Mount Agung, which rises to 3,142 meters. The island is thus famous for its volcanic activity and its high mountainous plateaus.

There are many animal species on the Island of the Gods, the most famous of which are the Bali starling and the crab-eating macaque. Many national parks are accessible to visitors such as West Bali, located in the west of the island.

The Balinese culture is one of the richest of the Indonesian archipelago. Punctuated by traditions and religious ceremonies, music, dance, and handicrafts are the centerpieces of life on the island.

Visiting the temples gives a good idea of the importance that the Balinese give to spirituality and their beliefs. In addition to all these discoveries, there are many activities: scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, hiking and trekking, volcano climbing, shows...

It is recommended to go inland to immerse yourself more easily in the Balinese culture, and thus avoid the influx of people on the most touristy sites of the island.
