🗼 Landmark 🐾 Wildlife 🏰 Place of worshipLucknow is the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is the largest city in this state, the 11th most populous city in India and the 12th most populous metropolis in this country. Lucknow has long been a multicultural city where North Indian art and culture flourished. Lucknow boasts a fascinating historical, architectural, gastronomic and cultural wealth, even rivaling Delhi in the 19th century. Formerly a colony of the English East India Company, this multiculturalism and its Persian, Indian and European influences can be found in the heart of its many sites to visit, such as the Bara Imambara, Chhota Imambara, the Collège de la Martinière or Rumi Darwaza.
Lucknow is located at the intersection of many road and railway lines, and Chaudhary Charan Singh international airport is located about 10 km southwest of the city center.
Visit the Qaisar Bagh, the palace of the last Mogul of Aoudh, which houses collections of sculptures and the Uttar Pradesh State Museum with an important archaeological collection. Then visit the Imambara district, the tomb of a Muslim holy man, with very fine architecture. Asifi Imambara, a monumental edifice built in 1784 by the fourth Mogul, Asaf-ud-Daula, the Bara Imambara is the most famous monument of Lucknow. Its construction started during a famine, the nabob having promised food in exchange for the work. The main hall is 50 meters long and 15 meters wide without any pillars to support its roof. Within the same complex stands the Rumi Darwaza or Turkish Gate, of Persian inspiration.
Most tourists often choose to come to the city between October and November due to the cool, pleasant autumn weather, which is very suitable for excursions. You can choose to travel by train to reach the city. However, booking train tickets here is a bit difficult, so it takes a little patience. And if your travel budget is generous, you should take a taxi or rent a private car.
