🏰 Temple 🏰 Historic site 🐾 Wildlife 🌆 SkylineIn terms of population, it is the sixth largest city in India with approximately 5.5 million residents. King Ahmed Shah established the city in 1411. Known as "Oriental Manchester" for its textile factories, the former state capital (1960-70) remains the most important city in Gujarat. Ahmedabad was described by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir as a "dust city" with two faces. On the east side of the Sabarmati River, there are the old city of Indian Muslim architecture and the modern buildings on the west side, buildings designed by Le Corbusier, Louis Khan or Charles Correa. The ancient charm of the old city and mosque makes tourists forget the horror of traffic, which is a kind of collective hysteria. After the 2001 earthquake, the French government allocated 1 million euros for the renovation of the old city. This person joined the very closed monument club registered by UNESCO in the World Heritage of Mankind in 2017. This recognition should allow the "pols" of Ahmedabad, these semi-independent districts of the old city, to regain their past splendor.
