Do not miss the Arch and the Rotunda of Galerius, Roman monuments of the beginning of the 4th century, built by the emperor Galerius. The Rotunda was used as a church and then as a mosque, that's why it has a minaret, it is currently under renovation but you can still go and see it. Go down the nice pedestrian street Dimitriou Gounari to see the ruins of Galerius' palace. There are many interesting museums in Thessaloniki. To understand the history of the city, start with the archaeological museum, nice inside and outside where there are mosaics. Then continue with the museum of the Byzantine culture, brand new museum, superb exhibitions and very well presented.If you are a film fan then don't miss the film museum, in a restored old port warehouse, it is small but cheap and gives information on how to make films and on Greek cinema. In the same building, there is the museum of photography.Another nice museum is the museum of the Olympic games. It traces the history of the games since antiquity and presents a collection of objects of all the games since its rebirth in 1896 in Athens by Pierre de Coubertin.
