Thuringia, officially the Free State of Thuringia, is a state of Germany. In central Germany, it covers 16,171 square kilometres, being the sixth smallest of the sixteen German States. It has a population of about 2.15 million inhabitants. Erfurt is the state capital and largest city. Other cities are Jena, Gera and Weimar.
The Thuringian Forest, is a mountain range in the southern parts of the German state of Thuringia, running northwest to southeast between the valley of the river Werra near Eisenach and the Thuringian-Vogtlandian Slate Mountains.
