On the 29th floor, an observation deck open from 9:00 a.m. offers breathtaking views of the city. If you are a classical music fan, the Leipzig Opera House and the Gewandhaus concert hall are also must-sees at Augustusplatz. The St. Thomas Church (Thomaskirche) is a Romanesque and neo-Gothic building dating from the 12th century. After being destroyed during World War II, it underwent a massive restoration before being reopened to the public in 2000. Among its most picturesque features are the marble baptismal font depicting biblical scenes, the bronze epitaphs of notable figures and the statue of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. For about 2 EUR, you will be able to attend motet performances by the St. Thomas Boys' Choir, every Friday (6 pm) and Saturday (3 pm).
