Welcome to Savoie!
Located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Savoie is a French department. Located at an altitude of about 1500m, it is one of the most mountainous departments in France. The famous Mont Blanc, the highest point of the Alpes, is located nearby. It is the highest peak in Western Europe at 4,800m.
Tourism is a major part of Savoie's economic activity, especially in winter. Indeed, the area is particularly popular with families during the winter. This period is ideal for alpine sports such as skiing as the whole area is covered with thick layers of snow.
In order to enjoy a longer stay, you can rent and stay in beautiful chalets with breathtaking views of the snow-covered mountains and slopes.
The main activities in Savoie during the winter are alpine sports. If you like sporty, fun and technical activities, Savoie has many ski resorts such as Val d'Isère or Courchevel to welcome you and let you slither down the slopes.
If you have no experience, many instructors are available in the ski resorts to teach you to ski. With practice, you may even be rewarded with "stars"!
Sledging, snake gliss and snowmobiling are just as much fun as skiing and will allow you to become a real alpine sports ace!
After a good session of fun in the snow, there's nothing better than filling your belly, and for that, you'll have access to a whole range of restaurants that will allow you to warm up with traditional Savoyard dishes such as Savoyard fondue, Savoy cheese raclette or tartiflette!
It is also possible to go hiking, both in winter and in summer.
The glacial lake of Grand Méan is a very accessible valley and offers one of the most beautiful hikes in Savoie.
The path to the Lac du Saut and Lac de la Sassière also offers the opportunity for beautiful hiking, with beautiful green landscapes.
Finally, if you want to see if luck is on your side, you can also visit the majestic Grand Cercle Casino in Aix-les-Bains, inaugurated by King Emmanuel II in 1847.
Savoie offers a whole range of beautiful natural landscapes where the flora and fauna are as soothing as they are stimulating for the eyes!
Going to Savoie in the summer is just as interesting, as there are many activities available.
You can go hiking as well as on excursions. You can go for a walk near the lakes, in the mountains, or go canoeing and kayaking.
In the high season in Savoie, ski holidays are particularly expensive, although the cost of the holiday depends mainly on the holiday itself: accommodation, food, ski passes, ski equipment.
The high number of visitors during the school holidays increases the price, i.e. in winter.
You can come and ski in Savoie without equipment. In the ski resorts, you will find many shops where you can hire or buy ski equipment.
