🗼 Landmark 🏘️ TownColmar is an Alsatian city located between Strasbourg and Mulhouse. Its position on the Alsace wine route has earned it the nickname of "capital of Alsace wines". There, for a weekend, you can stroll through the charming streets while enjoying the cultural and culinary wealth of the city. With a history that goes back to 823, date of the first document that mentions the city, Colmar has many monuments, half-timbered houses, typical neighborhoods and famous museums. The city knew its golden age in the 15th and 16th centuries thanks to the merchants who built sublime buildings. Between 1870 and the end of the Second World War, Colmar passed several times under German domination before finally being attached to France. This past has given it a strong identity which can be found in its gastronomy as well as in its culture. The whole city is dotted with admirable districts and buildings. You will be able to contemplate the half-timbered houses of the old town, in particular in the rue des Boulangers; discover in the rue des Têtes a house dating from 1609 which displays 106 masks on its facade; or take a walk in the old tanners' district to observe the attics where hides used to be dried. You can also visit the Dominican Square, which houses a typical church of the mendicant orders, proof of their important presence in the city in the past. The cathedral is also a must-see in Colmar. Built in a gothic style with yellow sandstone, it was built in honor of Saint-Martin. You will find in Colmar buildings at the bend of each alley so do not hesitate to get lost according to your desires. Finally, during your stay in Colmar, don't miss a visit to the Bartholdi and Unterlinden museums, or an excursion to one of the many wine estates in the region to taste their famous wines.
