How to visit Trinidad ?

To get to Trinidad, you can take a Viazul bus from Havana or Varadero, which takes approximately 4-6 hours. Alternatively, you can rent a car or hire a private taxi for a more comfortable journey. If you prefer flying, there are domestic flights from Havana to Cienfuegos, and once you arrive, you can take a 1.5-hour taxi ride to Trinidad.

Booking a guided tour of the city in advance is highly recommended. This will ensure you have an experienced guide to navigate the narrow streets and explain the historical significance of each site. Some popular tours include walking tours, horseback riding excursions to nearby waterfalls, and day trips to the nearby Ancon Beach.

The costs in Trinidad are generally affordable compared to other tourist destinations. You can expect to pay around $5-$10 for a meal at a local restaurant, $20-$50 for a guided tour, and $20-$60 for accommodations per night.

Some of the best things to do in Trinidad include exploring the colonial architecture in Plaza Mayor, visiting the Museo Romántico and Museo Histórico Municipal, and enjoying live music at Casa de la Trova or Casa de la Música. For outdoor enthusiasts, hiking in Topes de Collantes National Park and snorkeling at the nearby Cayo Blanco are must-do activities.

For dining, try Restaurante San José, which offers a mix of Cuban and international cuisine in a charming courtyard setting. Another great option is Guitarra Mía, a cozy paladar (private restaurant) known for its delicious seafood and live music performances. For a more casual meal, head to La Botija, a popular bar and grill offering traditional Cuban dishes and a lively atmosphere.

When choosing where to stay in Trinidad, consider staying at a "casa particular" (a private homestay) for an authentic Cuban experience. Casa El Ceramista is a popular option, known for its beautiful pottery decorations and warm hospitality. Another option is Hostal Dr. Suarez y Sra. Addys, which offers spacious rooms, a rooftop terrace, and delicious home-cooked meals. For a more luxurious stay, consider the Iberostar Heritage Grand Trinidad, a 5-star hotel located in a restored colonial building in the heart of the city.

Off the beaten path: To experience something unusual in Trinidad, visit the nearby Valley of the Sugar Mills (Valle de los Ingenios). This UNESCO World Heritage site, located just outside of Trinidad, is home to the remnants of 19th-century sugar plantations, including the well-preserved Manaca Iznaga Tower. Climb the tower for stunning views of the valley and gain a deeper understanding of Cuba's sugar industry history.

If you are planning a trip to Cuba and are looking for which cities to visit, Trinidad should definitely be on your list. Trinidad is the best preserved colonial city in Cuba, with the old part of the city being a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. Trinidad, like most colonial cities, is beautiful with brightly colored buildings and cobblestone streets: you can learn more about Trinidad's colonial houses on Douce Cahute.

The Plaza Mayor (main square) is the heart of Trinidad, Cuba. Like many Spanish colonial cities, the square is the center of the city with green spaces and amazing churches. There are many restaurants in the buildings surrounding the square, making it a great place to base yourself nearby.

For the best views of Trinidad, head to the top of the tower inside the Palacio Cantero Historical Museum. Make your way to the top of the tower via the spiral staircase. From there, you can take the quintessential photo of Trinidad and the beautiful yellow bell tower with the mountains in the background. On the first floor, there are a number of historical artifacts from the city's past. And the entrance is free!

Trinidad is a small town that would be hard to really get lost in, but walk through the side streets and enjoy all the charm of the city. The entire city is painted in bright yellow, blue and pink. Stroll through the small alleys to take great pictures of the old American cars surrounded by the beautiful colonial architecture of the city.

Only fifteen minutes from Trinidad is a beautiful beach on the southern shores of Cuba. Day trips or local cabs (10-15€) can take you from the city to spend a day at Playa Ancon beach. If you like beaches, I also suggest you visit Playa Jibacoa on the other coast

Within an hour's drive of Trinidad, there are hundreds of waterfalls ready to be explored. The Salto del Caburni waterfall at 75 m is one of the most popular and is often highly recommended by locals and many visits take place here. The most impressive waterfalls are the El Nicho Falls, with several cascading waterfalls. However, El Nicho is difficult to reach and usually requires a 4×4.
